Practice Philosophy
Dr. Terhar and the staff at Advanced Breast Treatment are committed to providing the most responsive care possible in what can be a very stressful time in a woman’s life. They strive to achieve the utmost in professionalism while still displaying sensitivity and being mindful of a patient’s emotional and spiritual needs. They believe that timely and open communication is essential in forging strong and mutually respectful relationships. It is their mission to outperform expectations and provide a higher level of care than has been experienced before.
Dr. Terhar received her medical degree from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio in 1985. She stayed on in the Wright State Program to complete her general surgery training in 1990. She practiced general surgery for 15 years before dedicating her practice full time to the part of it she loved most – caring for breast disease.
Dr. Terhar is a board certified surgeon who has a very strong interest in diseases of the breast. This interest has led her to dedicate her practice entirely to the care of patients with breast problems. She has gained extensive clinical experience in this field since the onset of her practice in 1990, and she has actively sought continuing education in the newest techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases. She is strongly committed to the concept that patients with breast problems deserve the most prompt and compassionate treatment in the most up-to-date setting.
Dr. Terhar believes that in caring for patients with breast cancer, a multidisciplinary approach is crucial. She is therefore affiliated with the Breast Center at Sunrise, at which a team of professionals hold a weekly meeting to discuss the care of each newly diagnosed breast cancer patient. The members of this team include breast surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, nurse navigators, and many other associates caring for women with breast cancer. This allows for consideration of several options from dedicated specialists which translates into much more seamless care for patients than is possible without a team approach. This also affords patients the opportunity to participate in clinical trials which often give them access to cutting edge care prior to it use in general practice.
